Babygrlzae Says Up-And-Coming Artists Need More Than Singles To Build Their Careers. Babygrlzae has shared her thoughts on why emerging musicians should consider releasing both singles and full-length projects as they build their careers.
Responding to a fan who asked on Instagram whether upcoming artists should focus on singles or complete music projects, Babygrlzae explained that both formats serve different purposes and can contribute to an artist’s growth.
“Honestly both are important,” she wrote. “Singles allow you to put more energy into 1 song so it’s easier to promote whereas a tape allows people to get to know you and your music better, you also have more space to show versatility… I think singles are always a good start, but it’s important to have a catalogue to back it up.”
Her advice highlights the different roles singles and projects play in an emerging artist’s journey. A single allows musicians to concentrate their promotional efforts on one song, making it easier to introduce their sound to new audiences and build momentum around a release.
Full projects, however, give listeners a broader understanding of an artist’s identity, musical range and creative direction. With more songs to explore, audiences have an opportunity to connect with different aspects of the artist’s sound, potentially encouraging them to follow their journey beyond a single release.
For upcoming South African musicians navigating an increasingly competitive industry, Babygrlzae’s perspective offers a practical approach. Starting with singles can help establish a presence, but developing a strong catalogue is equally important for demonstrating consistency and giving listeners more reasons to engage with their music.
Her comments also address a common consideration among independent and emerging artists, who must decide how best to allocate their time, resources and promotional efforts. While a well-promoted single can introduce an artist to a wider audience, a collection of songs can provide greater insight into their abilities and long-term artistic direction.
Ultimately, Babygrlzae believes artists do not have to choose one format over the other. Singles can help open doors, while full projects allow musicians to build on that initial attention and give their audiences a more complete picture of who they are as artists.
