DAY FIVE – Craven Week 2026
Day Five brought an end to an extraordinary Craven Week 2026 tournament, showcasing the very best of South African schoolboy rugby. This year’s Craven Week 2026 results also made history, with two teams from the same province meeting in the final for the very first time.
Western Province Defeat Western Province XV to Win Craven Week 2026
The final match of Craven Week 2026 was a historic occasion as Western Province faced Western Province XV in the tournament decider. Western Province struck first, as many expected, but Western Province XV responded immediately to show they were capable of causing a major upset. Captain Basson extended Western Province’s advantage just before half-time before Farmer crossed in the corner to give Province a 19-5 lead at the break.
Saunders opened the scoring in the second half for Western Province XV, giving his side renewed belief. However, two more tries from Western Province stretched the lead to 16 points with 20 minutes remaining. Although Western Province XV continued to fight and added another converted try, Western Province matched their efforts to maintain control. In the end, Western Province lifted the Craven Week 2026 title with an impressive 40-24 victory over Western Province XV.
SWD Finish Strong Against Eastern Province
SWD finished their Craven Week 2026 campaign on a high with a convincing 41-19 victory over Eastern Province. The margin could have been even greater had SWD not allowed two soft tries, but it was still a dominant performance to close out their tournament.
Griquas Edge Griffons in Tight Contest
Griquas faced the Griffons on the B Field in one of the quieter Craven Week 2026 Day 5 fixtures. It proved to be another tightly contested encounter, a trend throughout the final day’s matches. Griquas eventually pulled away late to claim a solid 36-26 victory.
Blue Bulls Hand Free State Their First Defeat
An unbeaten Free State side took on the Blue Bulls, with the Bulls determined to hand the tournament favourites their first defeat. Fluks kept Free State at bay with an outstanding kicking display. Although Free State briefly took the lead, a superb try from Papier swung the momentum straight back in favour of the Blue Bulls. Du Rant gave Free State late hope by crossing to reduce the deficit to a single point, but the Blue Bulls held on for a thrilling 30-29 victory.
Limpopo Blue Bulls Hold Off the Valke
The Limpopo Blue Bulls and Valke produced another closely fought contest, with very little separating the two sides throughout the match. Unfortunately for the Valke, they fell just short once again, suffering a narrow three-point defeat and finishing Craven Week 2026 without a victory.
Sharks Edge Lions in One of the Matches of the Tournament
The Sharks and the Lions then produced one of the best matches of Craven Week 2026 as both teams looked to finish their campaigns on a positive note. The Sharks struck first, but it was Viljoen’s brilliant solo try, chasing down his own grubber kick, that stole the headlines. The game quickly developed into a see-saw battle, with both teams exchanging tries as the Sharks held a narrow 21-17 advantage at half-time.
The second half remained just as competitive, and with five minutes remaining only a single point separated the two sides. The dramatic finish saw Viljoen miss a penalty in injury time, allowing the Sharks to escape with a dramatic 31-30 victory.
Boland Outclass the Pumas
Boland ended their tournament with one of their strongest performances, brushing aside the Pumas with an impressive 40-17 win. Despite the Pumas’ energy, Boland controlled the contest from start to finish.
Leopards Finish with Victory Over Border
The Leopards took on Border in another evenly matched encounter, with both sides determined to finish Craven Week 2026 on a high after disappointing second-round fixtures. Border were unable to end their campaign with a victory, while the Leopards secured a deserved 45-31 win to finish the tournament with two victories from three matches.
