From the governor’s office to the governorship
Jude Ejiogu was already Chief of Staff when Rochas Okorocha appointed him Secretary to the Imo State Government in June 2015. He knew the administration from the governor’s office and from earlier responsibilities involving revenue and local-government personnel. Behind that public career lay years in banking and private industrial security. The appointment brought those experiences into the cabinet secretariat. His ambition now is to take responsibility for the government he once helped coordinate.
The banking years
His professional education began in the United States. Ejiogu graduated in monetary economics from Lincoln University in Missouri in 1980 and completed an MBA in finance at the University of St. Thomas in Houston in 1982. He worked in the international division of Texas Investment Bank in Houston as a senior loan and credit officer before continuing his banking career in Nigeria.
At Progress Bank, he became senior manager responsible for the Enugu zone. In 1990, he joined Hallmark Bank’s pioneer staff and later served as acting managing director. His work had moved from international credit to regional management and the leadership of a Nigerian bank. This was the financial career he brought to public service, with experience on both sides of the Atlantic and management responsibilities beyond a single branch.

Armourguards and the work beyond the office
Private industrial security widened that career. Imo Trumpeta lists Armourguards Limited among the companies Ejiogu managed; former colleagues supplied the fuller operational account to this series. They describe him as a co-founder who served for a period as executive chairman. Their account identifies 100 Armourguards personnel deployed at Murtala Muhammed International Airport on surveillance and intelligence duties, together with related work for the Nigerian Ports Authority.
Colleagues also remember him leaving Owerri for Lagos at short notice to attend meetings on protecting national installations. Their recollections describe an executive chairman involved in the company’s assignments and in meetings with the institutions for which it worked.
Readers seeking the details of those assignments can direct inquiries to FAAN, the Nigerian Ports Authority and Armourguards. Contracts, deployment schedules and correspondence would help establish the periods covered and the responsibilities undertaken.

Inside Imo’s administration
In Imo, Ejiogu served as Special Adviser on Internally Generated Revenue, chairman of the State Board of Internal Revenue, chairman of the Local Government Service Commission and Commissioner for Special Duties. He also became Chief of Staff. Channels Television reported his appointment as Secretary to the State Government on June 2, 2015, and his swearing-in on June 8. By then, public revenue, personnel administration and the governor’s office all formed part of his working history.
Much of the work of administration takes place between a decision being announced and somebody being able to act on it. Funding may be unsettled, a staffing decision delayed or responsibility divided between offices. Ejiogu’s revenue and personnel assignments, followed by service as Chief of Staff and SSG, give his career a particular relevance to that work. He has served both in departments with defined tasks and in the offices coordinating the executive as a whole.
His term as Secretary to the State Government ended in March 2016. Punch reported his dismissal on March 19 and noted that the official announcement gave no reason. The available report establishes the end of the appointment without explaining the circumstances behind it.
An ambition that predates this election
Ejiogu subsequently sought the APC governorship nomination in 2018. Daily Trust reported 12,369 votes for him in the October primary, a disputed process that produced competing claims of victory. His participation establishes that the ambition was already being pursued well before the present succession discussion. The tally records a party primary, not a statewide vote.
Business Hallmark’s March 2026 assessment again included Ejiogu among the APC figures under discussion for the governorship. It emphasized administrative experience and party loyalty, while distinguishing those qualities from the task of attracting wider support. His name has remained in the succession discussion alongside a record of senior service in the state. The public case before him concerns how he would use that experience if entrusted with the governorship.

The responsibilities he would bring to Government House
The most useful expression of that experience would be a program clear about choices. How revenue would be collected, which capital commitments could be sustained and how payroll would be met are matters for explanation in ordinary language. So are the practices he would retain and those he would change. Published costs and implementation dates would allow the public to follow his reasoning from a problem within government to the decision he proposes to take.
Sir Jude Ejiogu’s claim to administrative experience has names, dates and institutions behind it. Houston banking, senior responsibility in Nigerian banks, industrial security and service at the center of Imo government are substantial chapters in a working life. The governorship he seeks would draw them into a larger responsibility. His candidacy deserves to be read through that experience, with the attention due to someone who has already helped carry the daily burdens of the state.
