Anthony Edwards boasts about a stronger, more physical T-Wolves

Ant-Man Put the League on Notice and Encouraged Fans to Buy Regular Season Tickets

Anthony Edwards just fired the first shot of the NBA season. In a profane 39-second video that spread fast on Thursday, the Timberwolves star warned opponents that Minnesota wants no friendships this year. He promised hard fouls. He urged fans to buy season tickets. Then he closed with a laughing bit about the skin tones of himself, LaMelo Ball and Jaden McDaniels.

Anthony Edwards puts the league on notice 😂

“When yall see the Timberwolves come in town yall n***** need to know they on bulls***…you got the light skin, you got the brown skin and you got the black a** n****” pic.twitter.com/kyBe3HsWuH

The clip lands days before the 2026-27 opener. Minnesota reshaped its roster after a second-round playoff loss to San Antonio. Ball arrived from Charlotte in a June blockbuster trade, and Jonathan Kuminga signed as a free agent. Fans mostly embraced the swagger.

No league response to the video had been reported as of Thursday.

    “No Buddy-Buddy” Basketball

Anthony Edwards opened with a shrug. He claimed he did not have much to say. Then he said plenty. “We don’t […] with y’all,” he told the camera. “We don’t give a […] about you.” He added that there would be no friendly, buddy-buddy energy toward rival teams this season.

The warning sharpened from there. Edwards said opponents should know the Wolves arrive in town ready for a fight. He vowed Minnesota would foul them relentlessly. It was a blunt promise of physical basketball from a team that already prides itself on defense.

Then the pitch flipped toward the home crowd. Edwards said the locker room is tight this year. He called the roster “a bunch of boys.” He told fans to grab season tickets because the arena would be “turnt up.” Skip a game, he warned twice, and you miss out.

The finale drew the loudest laughs. Gripping a basketball, Edwards pointed to Ball and called him “light skin.” He pointed to McDaniels as “brown skin.” He then gestured at himself with a phrase containing a racial slur. “You got three shades of it,” he said, grinning. “How you want this?”

The setting looked like a team promotional shoot. Edwards wore a blue “Wolves Essentials” hoodie with a matching blue durag. Neon lights and Timberwolves branding filled the background. A basketball hoop prop stood nearby. Several men in hoodies and caps cracked up throughout, along with one in a tuxedo.

    A Roster Rebuilt Around Ant

The bravado has real basketball behind it. Minnesota finished last season 49-33, good for sixth in the West. The Wolves stunned Denver in the first round. Then, San Antonio then ended their run in the second round. That exit followed back-to-back trips to the Western Conference finals in 2024 and 2025.

The front office responded aggressively. Officially on July 10, Minnesota acquired LaMelo Ball and Josh Green from Charlotte in a multi-team trade. Naz Reid and draft compensation went to the Hornets. Julius Randle also departed. The Wolves then signed Kuminga, a recruit Edwards personally helped land. Ayo Dosunmu joined a group still anchored by Rudy Gobert and McDaniels.

The “three shades” trio shares deep roots. Edwards, Ball and McDaniels all entered the league in the 2020 draft. Edwards went first overall out of Georgia. Ball went third and edged Edwards for Rookie of the Year. McDaniels slipped to 28th and became one of the league’s best perimeter defenders.

Edwards is now the undisputed face of the franchise. He averaged 28.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists last season. He earned another All-Star nod despite missing time with injuries. With veterans like Mike Conley Jr. gone, the leadership role is fully his.

He has sounded thrilled about the new backcourt. At media day, Edwards praised Ball’s passing. He said it lightens his playmaking load and should hand him easier buckets. He has often compared winning in the NBA to the bonds of AAU ball. This clip looks like that philosophy on full display.

Expect a faster, switchier Minnesota this year. The roster now leans younger and more athletic. Ball pushes tempo. McDaniels and Kuminga can guard multiple positions. Gobert still protects the rim. It is a team built to run, and Edwards clearly wants everyone to know it.

A Familiar Pattern of Unfiltered Talk

Never has Anthony Edwards filtered himself for cameras. His candor is a core part of his appeal. He talks like a player in the gym, not a polished spokesman. Reporters lean in when he steps to a podium. Fans share his quotes within minutes. That colorful style has a price, though. The NBA has fined him more than once for profanity in postgame interviews.

This clip fits that history perfectly. Edwards sounds confident, energetic and playful from the first line to the last. He makes no predictions about standings, cites no stat, or names a specific rival. The entire speech runs on attitude. It moves from a warning to a sales pitch to a punchline in under 40 seconds.

The bravado also reflects a bigger job. Edwards is 25 now, and the locker room is fully his. Veterans like Mike Conley Jr. have moved on. Edwards has embraced that leadership role openly. He often says winning requires the tight bonds of AAU basketball. Joking with teammates on camera is how he builds them.

His recent comments point the same direction. At media day, he gushed about LaMelo Ball’s arrival. He said Ball’s passing lifts the playmaking weight off his shoulders. He expects easier scoring chances because of it. The video carries that same excitement, just louder and far less filtered.

The closing joke carried the sharpest edge. Edwards smiled and laughed through the “three shades” line as teammates cracked up around him.

    Fans Embrace the Swagger

The reaction online was swift and mostly gleeful. Fans called the clip hilarious and praised Anthony Edwards’ confidence. Many compared the “three shades” bit to a video game character-select screen. Others turned it into a rallying cry for the new-look roster.

Overall sentiment was predominantly amused and positive. Common reactions highlighted Edwards’ confidence and humor, with comments like “too funny,” “swag and confidence,” “character-select screen” and “three shades, one mission.” Several replies specifically noted the pointing at Ball and McDaniels and treated the skin-tone line as a lighthearted team joke. Some users connected it to the new roster’s energy and ticket-selling potential.

Not everyone cheered. A vocal minority said Edwards still needs to mature. Some pointed out that Minnesota has yet to win a title. Others simply disliked the explicit language in a team-produced video.

Selling a New Era in Minnesota

Strip away the language, and the clip is a sales pitch. Edwards wants fans in seats. He wants Target Center loud every night. Few stars push season tickets this directly.

The timing makes business sense. Minnesota just added a former Rookie of the Year and a dynamic young forward. Ball brings national buzz and highlight passes. Kuminga adds athletic upside. Both give casual fans new reasons to tune in.

Edwards understands his role as a marketer. He has headlined national campaigns and signature sneakers. He knows his voice moves people. This video turns that pull directly toward the Wolves’ box office.

    The West Will Answer

Talk is easy in October. The Western Conference remains brutal. Oklahoma City still sets the standard. San Antonio just bounced Minnesota from the playoffs and keeps rising.

The questions are real. Can Ball stay healthy for a full season? Will his defense hold up in a physical playoff series? Can Kuminga find a consistent role? Edwards has answered those doubts with bravado. The court must answer them next.

Minnesota now has a younger, faster core built around three players from the same draft class. Edwards has promised fouls, full arenas and zero friendships. Opening night will reveal whether the Wolves can back up every word.
