How Bayern Munich can beat PSG

Bayern Munich enter their UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg clash with Paris Saint-Germain with strong momentum and one of the most dangerous attacks in Europe.

Vincent Kompany’s charges have combined consistency with elite scoring output, highlighted by their record-breaking Bundesliga campaign, where they surpassed the league’s all-time goalscoring mark following a 5-0 win over St. Pauli.

That attacking strength is central to Bayern’s chances against PSG. Averaging over three goals per game in the Bundesliga, Bayern have shown they can break down both high and low defensive blocks. The partnership between Harry Kane, Luis Díaz and Michael Olise has been particularly influential, combining goals and assists at a rate that places them among the most productive duos in Europe this season.

Beyond the numbers, Bayern’s attacking structure has evolved. Kompany’s side are comfortable dominating possession but equally capable of accelerating quickly in transition. This dual threat is crucial against PSG, a team that thrives when games become open and stretched

Defensively, Bayern have shown improvement as the season has progressed. While not without vulnerabilities, they have become more compact and better organised in key phases of play. This balance will be essential against PSG’s attacking quality, particularly in limiting space for quick transitions.

Momentum also plays a significant role. Bayern’s recent run of results, including dominant league performances and comeback victories – having secured a fightback of the ages on Saturday after being 3-0 down against Mainz, has reinforced confidence within the squad. That belief, combined with experience in high-pressure European ties, gives them a strong platform.

To beat PSG, Bayern must control transitions, maintain defensive discipline and remain clinical in front of goal. If they can impose their structure while sustaining their current attacking output, they have a clear pathway to overcoming one of their most familiar European opponents.
