Four-time African champions Ghana have secured at least $13.5 million in FIFA prize money after qualifying for the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars officially booked their place in the knockout stage under the tournament’s expanded 48-team format following Uruguay’s 1-0 defeat to Spain, which confirmed Ghana’s progression before their final Group L match.

The qualification marks a remarkable turnaround for Ghana after entering the tournament on the back of a six-match winless run, including five consecutive defeats.

FIFA has allocated a record $871 million in total payments for the 2026 World Cup, comprising $655 million in performance-based prize money, $120 million in preparation funding and additional support payments.

Every participating nation receives $2.5 million in preparation funding, while teams eliminated in the group stage earn $10 million in performance payments, guaranteeing each team a minimum payout of $12.5 million.

By advancing to the Round of 32, Ghana are assured of at least $13.5 million—made up of the $2.5 million preparation fee and $11 million in performance prize money for reaching the first knockout round.

The financial rewards increase with every stage of the competition. Teams that reach the Round of 16 will earn $15 million; quarter-finalists receive $19 million, fourth-place finishers take home $27 million; third-place earns $29 million, runners-up receive $33 million, while the 2026 World Cup champions will pocket $50 million in performance prize money. These amounts exclude the preparation funding.

The 2026 edition is the first FIFA World Cup to feature 48 teams and a Round of 32, introducing an additional knockout round and a new prize-money tier for teams that progress beyond the group stage.

With qualification already secured, Ghana will now turn their attention to making a deep run in the tournament while significantly boosting their earnings with every victory.
