    PAKISTAN

So far in this World Cup, Pakistan have won only two of their five games, leaving them with four points and in 5th place on the table.

In their most recent match against Afghanistan, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. Pakistan’s innings got off to a slow start, but they managed to avoid early wickets. They gradually increased the scoring rate, with both Shafique and Azam achieving half-centuries. Khan and Ahmed also made decent contributions, falling just 10 runs short of their half-centuries. Pakistan ended up with a total of 282 runs in their 50 overs, losing 7 wickets.

Pakistan struggled in the bowling department only taking their first wicket in the 22nd over. The Afghanistan batsmen maintained pressure on Pakistan’s bowlers and only lost two wickets in the innings, with Afridi and Ali being the wicket-takers. Afghanistan chased down the 282 runs in the last over, resulting in an 8-wicket victory and a body blow to Pakistan’s chances of qualifying for the last 4.

    SOUTH AFRICA

The Proteas have been relatively successful in this World Cup, winning four of their first five games, accumulating 8 points and they are currently in second position in the standings.

South Africa’s last action was against Bangladesh in Wankhede on Tuesday and they won the toss and decided to bat first.  South Africa amassed an impressive 382 for 5 with Quinton de Kock getting 174 at a strike rate of 124.  There were also 50’s from Aiden Markram and a brilliant 90 off 49 balls from Heinrich Klaasen.

It wasn’t long before the Proteas bowlers were amongst the Bangladesh wickets and the chase never got going and in the 22nd over Bangladesh were sitting on 81 for 6.  A brilliant 111 at a run a ball from Mahmudullah saw the Bangladesh innings touch respectability and they were bowled out for 233 with South Africa winning by 149 runs.

Gerald Coetzee was the top bowler with his 3 wickets for 62, but Rabada, Williams and in particular Marco Janssen bowled well each getting 2 wickets and Maharaj was the most economical with 1 for 32 off his 10 overs.

    HEAD-TO-HEAD

The last time these two teams faced each other was in a three-game series in South Africa in 2021, with Pakistan winning two of the three games and securing the series victory.

    Pakistan 15/10

    South Africa 11/20

Odds correct at time of writing but subject to change

Suggested Bet:  Pakistan to be under 28.5 runs at the first dismissal at 17/20

Pakistan’s openers have performed decently however they are up against a South African attack that has made a habit of taking early wickets and I am backing that trend to continue.

Suggested Bet: Aiden Markram to score over 27.5 at 17/20

Markram has been in excellent form in this World Cup so far and he has always been a player that can ride a hot streak.
