How the Book Was Made Three Centuries of Compilation, Translation, and Insertion By Prof. MarkAnthony Nze In 1516 Erasmus printed the first Greek New Testament and left a verse out. The passage now numbered 1 John 5:7-8, in which the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit are named as three that bear witness in heaven and are one, is the plainest statement of the Trinity anywhere in scripture. Erasmus could not find it in any Greek manuscript he held, so he did not print it, and he said as much in his notes. Pressure came at once. By his…

Kenya’s Capital Markets Authority has quietly cleared one of the more consequential ownership shifts in the country’s telecom history. The regulator has exempted Vodafone Kenya from the usual requirement to make a mandatory takeover offer, a technicality that matters enormously because it opens the door for Vodafone to acquire the government’s remaining 15% stake in Safaricom without triggering a costly obligation to buy out every other shareholder too. For anyone who hasn’t followed Safaricom’s ownership structure closely, this is worth unpacking. Safaricom is majority-owned by a mix of local and international shareholders, with Vodafone Group and Vodacom already holding a…
The Stormers have decided not to make a formal offer to Springbok centre Damian de Allende. According to Rapport, they are instead looking to lure one of the country’s biggest prospects to the Cape. The Stormers had held lengthy discussions over a possible return for De Allende, who is contracted to Japanse club the Panasonic Wild Knights until June 2027. The Stormers’ need for midfield cover following Dan du Plessis’ move to Bordeaux Bègles, coupled with uncertainty surrounding Ruhan Nel’s future, had fuelled speculation about a homecoming for the 34-year-old. But a source told Rapport the Cape club had opted…
The government on Saturday kept the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel unchanged for July 26 and 27 due to the non-publication of “Platts prices on weekends”. A day earlier, the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) were increased by Rs3.66 and Rs4.80 per litre, respectively. The current price of petrol stands at Rs335.18 per litre, while HSD is priced at Rs383.46 per litre. The government is charging a total of Rs110 per litre in taxes and duties on petrol and Rs96 on diesel. The Petroleum Division’s notification said the price increase announced for July 25 would also remain…
The future of the global diamond industry is being shaped by changing consumer behaviour, weaker demand, growing competition from laboratory-grown diamonds and the need for greater transparency across the value chain. De Beers Group’s proposal to pause production at its Venetia mine for up to two years marks one of the most significant developments affecting South Africa’s diamond sector in recent years. While the company expects to maintain its global production targets by relying on mines elsewhere in its portfolio, the decision could have far-reaching implications for employment, investment and the country’s diamond supply chain. According to the National Union…
The federal government moved to shut down reports of an imminent electricity tariff increase, saying no rate hike is planned for any consumer band and that subsidies for lower-usage households will continue. Sadiq Wanka, special adviser to the President on Power Infrastructure in the Office of the Vice President, said in a signed statement Friday that recent media coverage had misrepresented remarks he made at an industry event in Lagos on July 22. “There is no planned tariff hike for any grid consumer across any service band,” the statement said, adding that the government “remains committed to protecting vulnerable households…
