NFF has expressed confidence in the Super Falcons’ ability to secure back-to-back qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed confidence in the Super Falcons’ ability to secure back-to-back qualification for the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Following their return to the Olympic stage at the Paris 2024 Games, the 10-time African champions are now focused on their second-round qualifying fixture against Comoros. Both legs of the tie will take place at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo on October 9 and 13, 2026.
Nigeria must negotiate four rounds of two-legged knockout ties to claim one of Africa’s two available places at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
As one of the three highest-ranked teams in the qualifying series, the Super Falcons received a bye into the second round, while Comoros advanced after defeating Sudan 30-0 on aggregate.
The Falcons will need to eliminate Comoros over two legs to progress to the third round, scheduled for February 23 to March 6, 2027. They could face either the Democratic Republic of Congo or hosts Morocco at that stage.
A place in the fourth round would see Nigeria face one of Tunisia, Senegal, Benin Republic or Mali between October 4 and 12, 2027.
The final round of qualifying is scheduled for November 23 to December 4, 2027, when Nigeria could meet Guinea, Cameroon, DR Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Central African Republic, Algeria or Burkina Faso.
The NFF believes the Falcons’ recent performances and international experience put them in a strong position to navigate the demanding qualifying series and secure another Olympic appearance.
Nigeria returned to the Olympic stage at Paris 2024 after missing the previous three editions, making qualification for Los Angeles a key priority for the Super Falcons.
