Ghana’s U-17 women’s national team, the Black Maidens, delivered another commanding performance to eliminate Liberia 8-0 on aggregate and book their place in the third and final round of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

Holding a comfortable 6-0 advantage from the first leg in Accra, the Black Maidens completed the job with a 2-0 victory in the return fixture at the Paynesville-Samuel Kayon Doe Sports Complex in Monrovia on Saturday May 30, 2026.

Both of Ghana’s goals came from set pieces, highlighting the team’s quality and composure. Seidatu Wahab opened the scoring with a well-taken free kick in the 15th minute before Juliana Gyekyewaa doubled the advantage with another direct free kick in the 51st minute.

The result mirrors Ghana’s first-round qualification campaign against Togo, where the Black Maidens also recorded a 2-0 away win before securing a 6-0 home victory to progress with an identical 8-0 aggregate scoreline.

At the heart of Ghana’s impressive qualifying run has been goalkeeper Belinda Maku Aklie, who recorded her fourth consecutive clean sheet of the campaign. The Division One goalkeeper has yet to concede a goal in the qualifiers, providing a solid foundation for the team’s success.

The Black Maidens have now scored 16 goals and conceded none across their four qualifying matches, underlining both their attacking strength and defensive discipline as they continue their journey towards the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Their next challenge comes against Senegal in the third and final qualifying round in July. Senegal secured their place after overcoming Cameroon 5-4 on penalties following a goalless aggregate draw over two legs.

With qualification now within touching distance, the Black Maidens will be aiming to maintain their impressive form as they seek a place at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
