Enzo Fernández makes quick Madrid trip to the City he wants to call home

Enzo Fernández spent Monday in Madrid, the city where he has said he would like to live, as he himself admitted a month ago. Those comments-interpreted by Chelsea as a nod to Real Madrid and a signal that he wants to leave the Blues this summer-cost him a two-match suspension from the squad as punishment.

His presence in Spain’s capital sparked all kinds of speculation, but the reason initially had nothing to do with football. The Argentine attended the Madrid Open tennis tournament along with Cucurella, João Pedro, and their respective partners, after helping Chelsea reach the FA Cup final with a headed goal. There, they will face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City for the title.

Enzo took advantage of a day off granted by Calum McFarlane, the current Blues head coach following the dismissal of Liam Rosenior. His appearance in Madrid set off speculation on social media, but there is no evidence that the trip has anything to do with a potential move to Real Madrid.

The player had already taken advantage of a similar opportunity last season to travel to Madrid to watch tennis and spend a few hours in the city. “He didn’t mention any club or say he wanted to leave Chelsea; he only talked about Madrid, the city, because he was asked which European city he would like to live in in the future,” said the player’s agent, Javier Pastore, when Chelsea decided to punish Enzo Fernández over his controversial remarks.
