How 1UP, 2UP and 3UP Early Payouts Work

Quick answer: XUp is SportPesa’s family of early-payout football markets — 1UP, 2UP and 3UP. Back a team on an XUp market and if they go ahead by that number of goals at any point in the match, your bet is paid as a winner straight away — even if the game is later drawn or lost.

No more watching your team race into the lead only to throw it away at the death. With XUp, the lead itself is enough. This guide explains what 1UP, 2UP and 3UP mean, how the early payout works, and how to place your first XUp bet on SportPesa.

XUp is the name for three linked early-payout markets on the standard match-result (1X2) bet:

    • 1UP — pays out when your team leads by one goal
    • 2UP — pays out when your team leads by two goals
    • 3UP — pays out when your team leads by three goals

On each one you pick Home, Draw or Away, just like a normal result bet. The difference is how you win. On a standard bet you only collect if your team wins the match. On XUp there are two ways to win: your team reaches the goal margin at any point in the 90 minutes, or they win the match. Whichever happens first settles your bet as a winner.

How 1UP, 2UP and 3UP Early Payouts Work

1UP is the most popular of the three, and the easiest to land. Your bet is settled as a winner the moment your team goes one goal ahead — 1-0, 2-1, 3-2, it doesn’t matter how. Because a lead happens in the large majority of football matches, 1UP triggers far more often than a standard win bet ever settles.

Here’s the part that changes everything: once your team is a goal up and the bet is paid, it stays paid. If they get pegged back to a draw, or even lose, your winnings are yours to keep.

    1UP example

Say you back Arsenal (Home Win 1UP) against Coventry.

    • Arsenal go 1-0 up after 20 minutes → your bet is settled as a winner immediately.
    • Coventry fight back to draw 2-2 → it makes no difference. You’ve already won.

On a standard Home Win bet, that 2-2 finish would have lost. On 1UP, the early lead had already secured your payout.

2UP and 3UP work exactly the same way, but the goal cushion is bigger:

    • 2UP settles as a winner when your team leads by two — 2-0, 3-1, 4-2 and so on.
    • 3UP settles when your team leads by three.

The bigger the margin, the less often it happens — so 2UP and 3UP land less frequently than 1UP, but they carry higher odds to match. They suit the games where you expect a one-sided, high-scoring afternoon.

XUp isn’t free value, and it’s worth being straight about that. Because an XUp bet is easier to win than a standard result bet — leading is a lower bar than winning — the odds are a little shorter than the normal 1X2 price. What you’re paying for is the early payout and the safety of banking the win the moment your team is in front. That security is the whole point; just go in knowing the price reflects it.

Market Pays out when your team… How often it lands Best for
1UP Leads by 1 goal Most matches Any fixture; the everyday early-payout pick
2UP Leads by 2 goals Around half of matches Strong favourites, higher-scoring games
3UP Leads by 3 goals The one-sided games Big mismatches, for the bigger odds

A simple rule of thumb: 1UP for reliability, 2UP and 3UP when you fancy a favourite to run riot.

XUp works on both single bets and multi-bets, but it feels most powerful on a Single Bet. On a single, the early payout is your result — the moment your team leads, the bet is won and settled. On a MultiBet, an XUp leg is marked as won as soon as your team goes ahead, but the slip itself can’t settle until every other leg lands. If you want the full instant-payout effect, back XUp as a single.

    1. Log in to your SportPesa account and open the football event you want.
    2. On the match, look for the 1X2 – 1UP market (and 2UP / 3UP where available).
    3. Choose Home, Draw or Away, just like a normal result bet.
    4. Add it to your betslip, enter your stake, and place the bet.
    5. If your team reaches the lead, your bet is settled as a winner and the winnings land in your account — no need to wait for full time.

Look for the XUp label on eligible competitions such as the English Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and the Bundesliga. Availability varies by match, so check the event page.

    • Paid the moment you’re ahead. Bank the win as soon as your team leads — no sweating the final whistle.
    • The lead is enough. A late equaliser or a smash-and-grab defeat can’t take a settled XUp win away from you.
    • You choose the risk. 1UP for the steady option, 2UP and 3UP for bigger odds on the games you expect to be one-sided.
    • Watch the rest for fun. Once you’re paid, the last hour is pure entertainment.

What does 1UP mean in betting?

1UP means your bet is settled as a winner the moment your selected team goes one goal ahead, at any point in the match — regardless of the final score.

    What’s the difference between 1UP and 2UP?

1UP pays out when your team leads by one goal; 2UP needs a two-goal lead. 1UP lands more often, 2UP carries higher odds.

Does my team have to win the match?

No. As long as they reach the XUp goal margin at any point, your bet is a winner — even if they later draw or lose.

What happens if my team leads and then loses?

Nothing changes. Once your XUp bet is settled as a winner, the payout is yours to keep.

Why are XUp odds lower than a normal bet?

Because leading is easier than winning the match. The shorter price reflects the added security of the early payout.

Can I use XUp on a MultiBet?

Yes. An XUp leg is marked as won when your team goes ahead, with the rest of the slip left to run. The instant payout is most noticeable on singles.

Which matches is XUp available on?

Selected competitions, including major leagues like the EPL, La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga. Look for the 1X2 – 1UP market on the event page.

Is XUp betting available in South Africa?

Yes — 1UP, 2UP and 3UP are available to SportPesa customers in South Africa on eligible football matches.
