Kwesta Opens Up About Why His Recent Albums Were Poorly Marketed. South African hip-hop star Kwesta has candidly admitted that weak marketing, rather than the quality of his music, is the reason some of his recent albums failed to reach a wider audience.
Speaking during a recent interview on Podcast And Chill, the rapper reflected on the reception of his projects, including his collaborative album with Kabza De Small and The Big Bro Theory. While Sol Phenduka praised both releases, they questioned why the latter, in particular, arrived with so little fanfare despite its quality.
Sol Phenduka noted that many listeners either never realised the album had been released or wrongly assumed it had failed because there was little conversation surrounding it.
Kwesta didn’t shy away from taking responsibility.
“Because I suck at it,” he said with a laugh before explaining that he had not put enough effort into the business side of releasing music.
The rapper revealed that he had not built a dedicated team to handle promotion and marketing during that period, leaving his projects without the strong campaigns they deserved.
“I haven’t really assembled a team in terms of pushing music since that time,” he explained. “So I’ve really not been putting in big strength when it comes to the marketing side.”
Kwesta said the experience has been a valuable lesson and confirmed that he has since changed his approach.
According to the award-winning rapper, he has now assembled a team to ensure future releases receive proper planning, stronger promotion and greater public awareness.
“So whatever comes next will be better planned for in terms of pushing it forward and creating awareness,” he said.
His comments suggest fans can expect a much more strategic rollout for his upcoming music, with the focus now extending beyond creating great songs to making sure they reach the audiences they deserve.
