Nico Gonzalez remains under contract at Juventus after Atletico Madrid did not trigger the obligation to buy clause in his loan deal, but reports in Italy claim that the Argentine has no intention of coming back to play for the Bianconeri in 2026-27.

Report: Nico Gonzalez unwilling to return to Juventus

Nico Gonzalez joined Juventus on loan with a conditional obligation to buy from Fiorentina in the summer of 2024, costing Juventus €33m across his loan and transfer fee, not including bonuses and additional fees that could be worth up to a further €8.1m.

The Argentine spent just one season in Turin before being sent on loan to Atletico Madrid, again with a conditional obligation to buy.

Atletico Madrid’s obligation to buy clause was linked to a minimum number of LaLiga appearances, which Nico Gonzalez ultimately did not reach. Diego Simeone’s side no longer have to pay the €32m buy-out fee they arranged last summer, but recent reports indicate that Atleti are still keen to keep the winger on board.

The issue is that Atletico are unwilling to pay the €32m fee for Nico Gonzalez, and are instead willing to pay a maximum of €24m-€25m including bonuses according to the latest updates from La Gazzetta dello Sport.

This has not been enough to convince Juventus into a sale, and La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that everything has been ‘on standby’ for the last few days.

Nico Gonzalez’s stance is clear: He is unwilling to return to Juventus in 2026-27 and wishes to stay on in Madrid with Atletico. La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that he is pushing to stay at the Metropolitano, but if a permanent transfer does not work out, he is expected to push for a move elsewhere.
