Robert Pattinson plays Chris Hansen in new A24 thriller ‘Primetime’

Robert Pattinson is set to portray “To Catch a Predator” host Chris Hansen in “Primetime,” an upcoming A24 drama whose first teaser trailer dropped Wednesday.

The film, directed by Lance Oppenheim — best known for the HBO docuseries “Ren Faire” — centers on Mr. Hansen during the rise of “To Catch a Predator,” the true-crime program that aired as part of “Dateline NBC.” The show featured Mr. Hansen confronting men suspected of attempting to meet minors, with the help of law enforcement and online decoys.

The teaser is structured as a split screen and features Mr. Pattinson delivering lines that fans of the original program will recognize — the pointed questions Mr. Hansen would put to subjects caught on camera.

“What would have happened if I wasn’t here? You see how this looks, right?” Mr. Pattinson’s version of Mr. Hansen asks. “At the end of the day, a man must be held accountable for the decisions that he makes. Would you agree?”

Deadline noted the film may share the perspective of David Osit’s acclaimed 2025 documentary “Predators,” which scrutinized the ethics behind the production of “To Catch a Predator,” and suggested the teaser evokes Dan Gilroy’s 2014 thriller “Nightcrawler,” starring Jake Gyllenhaal.

The cast also includes Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo and Phoebe Bridgers. Mr. Oppenheim directed from a script by Ajon Singh. Producers include Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Fred Berger, Mr. Pattinson, Brighton McCloskey, Lars Knudsen and Tyler Campellone.

“Primetime” is scheduled for a theatrical release this fall, though no official date has been set.
