Sachin Tendulkar gives his verdict on Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s future in Test cricket

Vaibhav Suryavanshi‘s dream run in IPL 2026 may have ended with Rajasthan Royals falling short in Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans, but the 15-year-old has already established himself as the biggest revelation of the season. Following his extraordinary performances throughout the tournament, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has shared his thoughts on the youngster’s future, expressing confidence that Indian fans would eventually love to see him represent the country in Test cricket while urging everyone to avoid placing unnecessary pressure on the teenage star.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s brilliance lights up IPL 2026 despite Rajasthan’s exit

Suryavanshi enjoyed a season that will be remembered for years. The young opener consistently dismantled bowling attacks with his fearless approach, breathtaking strokeplay and remarkable maturity beyond his age.

Even though Rajasthan Royals’ title hopes ended after their defeat to Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2, Suryavanshi finished the tournament on a high. He emerged as the Orange Cap winner, scoring an astonishing 776 runs in 16 matches at an average of 48.50 and an explosive strike rate of 237.30. His campaign included one century and five half-centuries, making him one of the most dominant batters of the season.

One of his finest performances came in the knockout clash against Gujarat Titans, where he smashed 96 runs off just 47 deliveries. Although the innings could not take Rajasthan into the final, it earned widespread admiration from players, experts and fans across the cricketing world.

His exceptional performances have already been rewarded with a place in the India A squad for the upcoming tri-series in Sri Lanka, marking another significant milestone in his rapidly rising career.

Should Vaibhav feature in India’s Test team? Sachin Tendulkar gives his verdict

As discussions surrounding Suryavanshi’s future continue to gather momentum, Sachin Tendulkar believes the youngster should be allowed to develop naturally without being burdened by expectations.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Tendulkar acknowledged that every cricket fan would like to see Suryavanshi play Test cricket at some point in his career. However, he emphasized that the timing of such a move should be left to the selectors and team management rather than becoming a subject of constant public debate.

The batting great stated that talented young players require encouragement and support. He stressed that instead of repeatedly questioning whether Suryavanshi should be picked for a particular squad or format, the cricketing community should simply enjoy watching him grow and allow the decision-makers to handle his progression.

“Not just me, but everyone would want to see him [playing Test cricket] at some stage. I don’t know when that is going to happen. But an exciting talent needs encouragement. And if he’s doing well, then we need to encourage and support him and enjoy above all and not put pressure on him constantly, you know, he should play this, or he shouldn’t be doing this, or he should be picked in whatever squad. Leave that to the guys [selectors] who are responsible for that,” said Tendulkar.

Tendulkar explains why Suryavanshi is a special player

While discussing Suryavanshi’s batting, Tendulkar pointed to qualities that extend far beyond his ability to clear boundaries. According to the former India captain, what makes the youngster truly unique is his exceptional wrist work and ability to access every part of the ground. Tendulkar explained that playing shots in multiple directions requires outstanding control and bat speed, something Suryavanshi possesses naturally.

The Master Blaster was particularly impressed by the teenager’s ability to read line and length earlier than most batters. Rather than relying solely on power, Suryavanshi anticipates deliveries quickly and positions himself perfectly to attack bowlers.

Tendulkar noted that the youngster is not merely slogging the ball but is using superior timing, technique and game awareness to clear the ropes with ease. Those qualities, combined with his fearless mindset, have convinced many that Indian cricket has unearthed a rare talent capable of achieving great things in the years ahead.

“I mean he is something truly special. And not just the ability to hit the ball, but what also fascinated me was the wrist work that he has.To be able to play in all directions of the ground, you need good wrist work. And he is not slogging the ball. He is just picking the line and length earlier than the rest of the guys and he is able to clear the rope comfortably,” added Tendulkar.
